Vaping has never been as popular as it is right now, and we here at Elekcig can easily understand why. Vaping an e-cigarette is both easy and smart, and e-cigarettes have the clear advantage of being a much better alternative to regular cigarettes with their harmful chemicals.
Whether you are a beginner, or perhaps you are already familiar with e-cigarettes, you may also have had some unanswered questions regarding vaping.
These may include questions about how to mix your own e-liquid, but they may also concern the inside of your e-cigarette. For example, questions about the coil located inside your e-cigarette together with a small battery and a tank for your e-liquid.
What is inside my e-cigarette?
An e-cigarette consists of 3 different parts: a container for the e-liquid, a battery and a burner, also called a coil. The tank inside is the part that holds the e-liquid, and the battery is designed to provide power so that your e-cigarette can be activated.
E-liquid comes in a wide variety of flavors and aromas and can even be obtained both with and without nicotine. The unique liquid is based on two important ingredients - PG propylene glycol and VG vegetable glycerin. Both must be used to create the vapor that appears when you vape your e-cigarette.
How does a coil work?
The coil is the part of your e-cigarette that heats the e-liquid you have chosen for your e-cigarette. The coil consists of cotton wrapped in a thin metal wire. It is important that the cotton absorbs liquid before you use the e-cigarette. If you do not make sure that the cotton is completely wet, you risk the coil burning out and the vapor developing a burnt taste when you vape.
What happens inside the e-cigarette when you press the button is that the e-liquid flows from the tank into the coil, causing the liquid in the cotton to vaporize. After you have used the e-cigarette a few times, a rule of thumb is that the coil needs to be replaced with a new one after approximately 2-4 weeks.
It is fairly easy to know when it is time to replace it, as both the flavor and the amount of vapor will decrease in intensity as the e-cigarette is used.
How to replace the coil in your e-cigarette
You need to replace your coil from time to time. Fortunately, it is easy to do yourself. A coil usually lasts approximately 2-4 weeks. Coils can be purchased in bulk, so make sure you have a few pieces stored in a drawer at home, so you do not have to go out and buy a new coil.
Replacing a coil is quite simple, so here is a short guide:
- Start by unscrewing the coil from the e-cigarette
- Remove the coil
- Now detach the coil and the base
- You can now screw the new coil into the base, and then you are ready to vape again.
How can I make my coil last as long as possible?
Naturally, you want your coil to last as long as possible, so here are a number of things you can do yourself to extend its lifespan. First and foremost, before turning on your e-cigarette, it is important that you always make sure that the cotton in the coil is completely soaked with the chosen e-liquid. If you do not make sure that the cotton is completely moist, the coil will be damaged and you will get a burnt taste when you vape.
On some e-cigarettes, it is even possible to turn the wattage up and down; all coils are measured in watts. Depending on which coil you have in your e-cigarette, there is a minimum and maximum wattage. Here, your e-cigarette must be at least 30W and no more than 70W, otherwise the coil's lifespan will be significantly reduced. It is therefore important that you always ensure that the coil is neither above nor below the recommended wattage.
Choose an e-liquid that is good for your coil
Your choice of e-liquid also matters when it comes to the coil's lifespan. Some e-liquids are bad for the coil, such as sweet fruit-flavored liquids. But mint or licorice flavors can also help ruin your coil.
What happens with sweet liquids is that the metal wire in the coil and around the cotton caramelizes, thereby preventing optimal evaporation of the e-liquid.
Daily wear and tear on the coil reduces its lifespan
Since you use your e-cigarette regularly, probably every day as well, there will naturally also be daily wear and tear on the coil. The more you vape and the higher the power you use when vaping, the faster the coil in your e-cigarette will wear out.
If your e-cigarette has a burnt taste or has stopped producing the amount of vapor it usually does, it is time to replace the coil with a new one.
Which coil fits my e-cigarette?
If you are unsure which coil fits your e-cigarette, the easiest way is to look at the packaging that came with it when you bought your e-cigarette. If you did not save the packaging and are therefore still unsure, you can always contact our helpful staff.
If you try to find one yourself, it can be difficult to determine which one is right for you. If you are also new to the vaping world, it may even be difficult to navigate the many different products.
A good idea is to search for your e-cigarette in our store. Different coils that match the selected e-cigarette are usually shown in the search results, and you can therefore choose a variant that fits your own e-cigarette perfectly.
