It can be difficult to know how much nicotine one consumes in a day. Usually, you don't measure it.

There are plenty of vapers out there who use their E-cigarettes almost all the time. Despite this, many believe that they consume much less nicotine than someone who smokes cigarettes. That is why it is quite relevant to look at E-juice and the amount of nicotine in it. This article is about nicotine content. How much do you need? How much nicotine is in a cigarette? And so on.

Nicotine content of a cigarette and an E-juice

Here we look at how much nicotine there is in your E-juice. An example: You have a bottle of E-juice that contains 18 mg of nicotine per milliliter. It is very important to remember that this is per milliliter and not per bottle. Most ingredients in a food product are measured per 100 ml or 100 grams, but this does not apply to E-juice. Here, we are instead talking about per 1 milliliter.
A regular pack of cigarettes usually states something like “1 milligram of nicotine”. This means that there is 1 mg of nicotine in each cigarette.

Milliliters of E-juice

We will now use a fictional E-smoker who vapes 1 ml of E-juice per day. This is a fairly common amount, although many people naturally consume more or less than that. If you use 1 ml of E-juice with 18 mg of nicotine per milliliter, you consume 18 mg of nicotine (1 ml x 18 mg = 18 mg). This corresponds to 18 cigarettes per day if we assume the same cigarettes as before.
Imagine that our person instead uses twice as much E-juice, namely 2 ml, for example on a festive day or if he or she is a heavy user; the person actually consumes 36 mg of nicotine – 36 (!) cigarettes.
It is a good idea to calculate your consumption to see whether it corresponds to more or fewer cigarettes than you actually smoked before. This way, you can see whether your nicotine consumption has increased or decreased after switching to an E-cigarette. Try calculating how much you use.

Keep track of the amount of nicotine

If you do not think about, or do not care about, the amount of nicotine, it can quickly happen that you actually increase the amount of nicotine you consume after switching to E-cigarettes. It is true that not all nicotine is absorbed by the body. Some of it also disappears, but it is very difficult to calculate.
The most important thing is to keep track of how much nicotine you consume with the E-cigarette compared with regular cigarettes.

If you feel that your nicotine consumption is too high, you can try to reduce your consumption. For example, you can order E-juice with less nicotine or without nicotine altogether. Of course, you can also simply use your E-cigarette less without actually choosing an E-juice with less nicotine. With both strategies, you could reduce your consumption somewhat.

In addition, you can also put obstacles in your own way. For example, you can stop using your E-cigarette at work, or you can stop carrying your E-cigarette in your pocket wherever you go.
But even if you cannot or do not want to vape less, or if you use the same amount of nicotine as before, you lose nothing. In any case, you avoid the 4000 chemical substances from every cigarette you do not smoke. In addition, you avoid the smell and your sense of smell improves.

If you have consumed too much nicotine

If you have too much nicotine in your body, it is called nicotine poisoning. There are some specific symptoms that indicate this, and you should pay attention to them. How nicotine poisoning ultimately manifests itself is quite individual; however, you should react to these typical signs:

- Dizziness
- Headache
- Increased blood pressure
- Stomach ache
- Nausea and vomiting
- Convulsions
- Heart palpitations

These symptoms can of course also have other causes, so do not panic if you occasionally get a headache or stomach ache after using your E-cigarette. However, you should listen to your body, and if you suspect nicotine poisoning, you must seek medical help as soon as possible.
