When you have looked around for e-liquid tanks and evaporators/coils, you have surely come across “Ohm” ratings.
Many of our e-liquid tanks and evaporators are available for purchase in different Ohm ratings. Of course, you should know in advance what Ohm is, but it can be confusing; perhaps you simply want to try our new e-liquid tanks or replace the evaporator/coil. In this guide, I will try to clearly explain what “Ohm rating” actually is and what it means for your e-cigarette.
Quite simply, “Ohm rating” is the size of the electrical resistance, or an indication of how “freely” electricity is able to flow through something. Ohm can also be represented by this symbol: Ω
When we use “Ohm” in connection with e-cigarettes and accessories, it refers to the type of heat the evaporator/coil should generate in order to vaporize our E-juice.
There are 2 factors that determine how hot the coil becomes: the Voltage supplied by the batteries and the Ohm rating of what is located above the battery. A higher Voltage from the battery and a lower Ohm rating from the evaporator/coil will create more heat in the evaporator/coil to vaporize the E-juice. Heat produced by the evaporator/coil will enhance the flavor of the e-juice, increase the amount of vapor and improve your overall experience with e-cigarettes.
By using the Ohm scale, we can fine-tune which products work best with the batteries we sell – in this way, we achieve the best amount of vapor and the best flavor experience.
Let us take an example with 2 identical e-liquid tanks from the same producer; the only difference is that their evaporators/coils have different Ohm ratings.
1) Low Ohm rating: 1-1.8 Ohm
2) Standard Ohm rating: 2.2-2.8 Ohm
As you can see, there are clear advantages and disadvantages.
You are probably sitting there saying to yourself, “Which Ohm rating and coil should I order?”
I can say with certainty that there is no concrete answer to that question. It may depend on what you personally prefer, and it also depends greatly on your equipment and E-juice. Normally, a low Ohm rating will give you the best flavor experience and produce the most vapor. However, there are limits to how high a Voltage and how low an Ohm rating can be used together. In the table below, you can see which ratings work best together. A low Ohm rating with too high a Voltage will make your e-cigarette far too hot, while too high an Ohm rating with a low Voltage will result in minimal vapor production. We recommend that you stay within the green zone.
